Brand-store monitoring on Taobao from Germany

A German client needed to analyze Chinese brand stores on Taobao — using their own tooling and schema.

The challenge

A Germany-based client needed visibility into how specific confectionery brand stores were operating on Taobao — a platform structured very differently from Western marketplaces, in a different language, and largely inaccessible to conventional tooling. They needed to analyze a Chinese marketplace using the same tools and schema they use for every other market.

What we built

We built product, pricing and listing data collection from targeted brand stores (chocolate and Dove) on Taobao, and structured it into a Western-readable schema. The hard part isn't just accessing Taobao — it's translating its structure into something a European team can analyze alongside their other market data without friction.

How it's delivered

The client receives structured product and pricing data from the targeted Taobao brand stores, mapped into their standard schema — so a Chinese marketplace slots into their existing analysis rather than requiring a separate, China-specific process.

The outcome

The client could monitor how specific brand stores operate on Taobao from Germany — pricing, listings and product presence — using their normal tooling. A marketplace that's opaque to most Western teams became just another structured data source in their stack.

Accessing Taobao is one thing; making it analyzable next to a European team's other market data is the real work. That's what turned a Chinese marketplace into a usable source.
